CHAPTER 207

INIQUITY AND ABOMINATIONS, AND THE FALL OF THE PEOPLE

The people had been warned.

The prophets had been sent among them.

The word of God had been declared.

Repentance had been offered.

Mercy had been extended.

Yet the people continued in iniquity.

They strengthened themselves in abominations.

They rejected the prophets.

They cast them out.

They stoned those who were sent to warn them.

They shed innocent blood.

They sought to silence the testimony raised against their wickedness.

Therefore they were fallen.

Their fall did not begin when their cities were destroyed.

Their fall began when their hearts rejected truth.

Their fall began when warning became an offense unto them.

Their fall began when they preferred wickedness to repentance.

Their fall began when they cast the servants of God from among them.

The destruction that followed manifested the course they had already chosen.

Iniquity weakened the people from within.

Abomination corrupted their works.

Pride hardened their hearts.

Violence filled their cities.

Secret combinations destroyed peace.

Murder polluted the land.

The blood of the prophets and the saints cried against them.

The Lord had suffered long with the people.

He had given them opportunity to turn.

He had called them to repentance.

He had sent witnesses.

He had declared the consequences of continued rebellion.

But the people would not hear.

They would not receive correction.

They would not forsake their wickedness.

They would not allow the prophets to remain among them.

Therefore judgment came.

Cities were burned.

Cities were sunk.

Cities were covered with earth.

Waters came up in the place of their habitations.

The wickedness hidden within the cities was hidden from before the face of the Lord through their destruction.

The people had built upon iniquity.

Their foundations could not endure.

They had trusted in strength.

Their strength could not preserve them.

They had trusted in secrecy.

Their secret works became known before God.

They had trusted in violence.

Violence returned upon them.

They had rejected warning.

The warned destruction arrived.

Yet the voice of the Lord continued to call unto those who remained.

Those who were spared were commanded to return.

They were invited to repent.

They were invited to be converted.

They were promised healing.

The arm of mercy remained extended.

Those who came unto Christ would be received.

Those who approached with broken hearts and contrite spirits would not be cast away.

Thus judgment and mercy were both declared.

Judgment answered the persistent iniquity of the unrepentant.

Mercy invited the spared to abandon that same course.

The fallen cities became witnesses.

Their ruins testified against secret wickedness.

Their destruction testified against the shedding of innocent blood.

Their desolation testified that rebellion could not preserve a people forever.

But the extended arm of mercy testified that the living could still repent.

Therefore wait not until destruction revealeth the condition of thy heart.

Receive warning while there is time to turn.

Hearken unto the prophets.

Reject secret works.

Shed not innocent blood.

Cast not truth from among thee.

Call not righteousness evil.

Strengthen not the combinations that destroy peace.

Repent of iniquity.

Forsake abominations.

Return unto Christ with full purpose of heart.

Offer unto Him a broken heart and a contrite spirit.

Receive the mercy extended toward thee.

Let the fall of others become a warning rather than a pattern.

Let their destruction awaken remembrance.

Let remembrance lead unto repentance.

Let repentance lead unto conversion.

Let conversion lead unto healing.

For iniquity and abominations bring a people down.

But Christ receiveth those who repent and return unto Him.

Amen.
