CHAPTER 156

PLAN OF REDEMPTION, THE PURPOSE PREPARED FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD, AND THE RESTORATION OF HUMANITY THROUGH CHRIST

The plan of redemption was prepared from the foundation of the world.

It proceeded from the wisdom of God.

It anticipated the fall.

It provided for mortality.

It prepared the way for resurrection.

The plan of redemption was not an answer devised after humanity had fallen.

It belonged to the eternal purpose of God.

Its foundation preceded mortal weakness.

Its promise preceded the grave.

Its power centered upon Christ.

The fall brought humanity into mortality.

Mortality established the day of probation.

Probation gave humanity time to choose.

Choice revealed the desires of the heart.

Desire directed the course of life.

The plan of redemption preserved human agency.

Humanity remained free to act.

Humanity remained free to believe.

Humanity remained free to repent.

Humanity remained free to reject the invitation of God.

Agency gave meaning to obedience.

Agency gave meaning to faith.

Agency gave meaning to repentance.

Agency gave meaning to covenant.

Agency gave meaning to judgment.

The plan of redemption preserved accountability.

The law remained established.

Truth remained unchanged.

Justice retained its lawful claim.

Every soul remained answerable for its works.

Yet the plan also prepared mercy.

Mercy invited the sinner to repent.

Mercy strengthened the humble.

Mercy encouraged the returning soul.

Mercy operated through the atonement of Christ.

Mercy lawfully claimed the penitent.

The plan of redemption united justice and mercy.

Justice did not destroy mercy.

Mercy did not overthrow justice.

The atonement satisfied the lawful demands of the plan.

The penitent received the way of reconciliation.

The atonement standeth at the center of redemption.

Through Christ, the demands of justice are answered.

Through Christ, mercy may claim the repentant.

Through Christ, death shall be overcome.

Through Christ, all humanity shall rise.

Without resurrection, the plan could not restore humanity.

The body would remain separated from the spirit.

The grave would retain its temporary claim.

Judgment could not restore every soul according to truth.

The appointed order would remain incomplete.

Therefore the plan of redemption bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead.

The spirit shall be restored unto the body.

The body shall be restored unto the spirit.

Every person shall stand again before God.

Every life shall be revealed according to truth.

Resurrection prepareth humanity for judgment.

Judgment revealeth the use of agency.

Judgment revealeth the works of the individual.

Judgment revealeth the desires of the heart.

Judgment revealeth whether the soul received or rejected truth.

The judgment of God is not confused.

Nothing is hidden from Him.

No righteous desire is forgotten.

No concealed rebellion remaineth concealed.

No human institution standeth between the soul and divine truth.

The plan of redemption leadeth unto restoration.

Every thing shall be restored to its proper order.

Good shall answer unto good.

Righteousness shall answer unto righteousness.

Truth shall answer unto truth.

Mercy shall claim that which properly belongeth unto mercy.

The plan receiveth the witness of every completed branch.

Faith returneth its testimony.

Repentance returneth its humility.

Prayer returneth its dependence.

Mercy returneth its compassion.

Redemption gathereth each witness into the eternal order.

Their witnesses strengthen the whole plan.

Mercy testified that the penitent may return.

Faith testified that the soul may trust God.

Repentance testified that the heart may change.

Prayer testified that humanity remaineth dependent upon its Creator.

Redemption gathereth these testimonies together.

The plan of redemption declareth the purpose of mortality.

Mortality is not the final state.

Death is not the final authority.

The grave is not the final destination.

Judgment is not separated from mercy and truth.

The plan declareth that humanity must prepare.

The day of probation hath purpose.

The time of repentance hath purpose.

The commandments of God have purpose.

The invitation of Christ hath purpose.

The gift of agency hath purpose.

Humanity may attempt to establish another plan.

It may trust in earthly power.

It may exalt human institutions.

It may build a tower devoted to its own permanence.

It may place the creature above the purpose of the Creator.

Yet the human tower cannot conquer death.

It cannot create resurrection.

It cannot erase accountability.

It cannot establish eternal restoration.

It cannot redeem the human soul.

The plan of redemption remaineth greater than the human tower.

It preceded every earthly institution.

It continueth beyond every mortal kingdom.

It resteth upon the power of God.

It findeth fulfillment through Christ.

The authority of humanity remaineth temporary.

The authority of God remaineth eternal.

The knowledge of humanity remaineth incomplete.

The wisdom of God comprehendeth the beginning and the end.

The institutions of humanity shall be measured by truth.

The plan of redemption shall accomplish its appointed purpose.

The faithful therefore receive the plan with humility.

They acknowledge their mortality.

They acknowledge their dependence.

They acknowledge their need for repentance.

They acknowledge their need for Christ.

They do not attempt to redeem themselves through pride.

They do not trust earthly power to overcome the grave.

They do not substitute institutions for the atonement.

They do not place human glory above divine purpose.

They seek redemption through the way prepared by God.

Faith entereth the plan through trust.

Repentance entereth the plan through change.

Prayer entereth the plan through dependence.

Obedience entereth the plan through willing action.

Hope entereth the plan through confidence in Christ.

The plan of redemption offereth hope to the fallen.

The sinner may repent.

The wanderer may return.

The broken heart may receive mercy.

The faithful may endure.

The dead shall rise.

No person is compelled to receive redemption.

The invitation is extended.

The truth is declared.

The way is prepared.

The choice remaineth with each soul.

Yet choice cannot remove consequence.

Unbelief cannot abolish resurrection.

Denial cannot prevent judgment.

Pride cannot transform error into truth.

Human power cannot overturn divine order.

The plan of redemption revealeth the seriousness of agency.

What humanity chooseth mattereth.

What humanity desireth mattereth.

What humanity loveth mattereth.

What humanity buildeth mattereth.

What humanity worshipeth mattereth.

The plan also revealeth the depth of divine mercy.

God did not leave humanity without hope.

God prepared an atonement.

God promised resurrection.

God sent messengers to declare truth.

God invited His children to repent.

The plan of redemption testifieth of Jesus Christ.

He is the appointed Redeemer.

He is the power by which death is overcome.

He is the way by which mercy may claim the penitent.

He is the foundation of reconciliation.

The faithful therefore center their hope upon Christ.

They remember His atonement.

They remember His resurrection.

They remember His mercy.

They remember His power to save.

The plan gathereth the whole course of humanity.

Creation standeth at the beginning.

Agency standeth within mortality.

Opposition standeth beside choice.

Repentance standeth within probation.

Resurrection standeth beyond death.

Judgment standeth before restoration.

Every part retaineth its appointed relationship.

Nothing needful is omitted.

Nothing lawful is overthrown.

Nothing righteous is forgotten.

Nothing completed needeth to be reopened.

The plan proceedeth according to perfect wisdom.

It descendeth into every necessary condition.

It gathereth every completed witness.

It restoreth every thing to its proper place.

It returneth all glory unto God.

Therefore let humanity receive the plan of redemption.

Let the proud become humble.

Let the rebellious repent.

Let the faithful endure.

Let all people prepare to meet God.

For the plan was prepared before mortality.

The atonement was appointed according to divine wisdom.

The resurrection shall overcome the grave.

Judgment shall reveal every work.

Restoration shall return all things to their proper order.

And those who receive the plan prepared from the foundation of the world, exercise faith in Jesus Christ, repent during the day of probation, and continue in righteousness shall rise through His power and be restored according to the truth, justice, and mercy of God.

Amen.
