CHAPTER 202
The devilish State
The old serpent was the cause of the fall.
Through the fall mankind became subject to conditions from which redemption was required.
Among those conditions was the devilish state.
The devilish state turns the soul away from God.
The devilish state seeks that men should reject truth.
The devilish state opposes righteousness.
The devilish state delights in rebellion.
The devilish state encourages deception.
The devilish state seeks contention.
The devilish state seeks destruction.
The devilish state does not bring peace.
The devilish state does not bring holiness.
The devilish state does not bring reconciliation with God.
The devilish state draws the heart away from divine instruction.
It strengthens resistance to repentance.
It hardens the heart against correction.
It encourages trust in pride.
It encourages confidence in evil.
It persuades men to oppose the things of God.
The devil became miserable through rebellion.
He desired that others should become miserable also.
He sought the misery of all mankind.
He became the father of lies.
He labored to deceive.
He labored to destroy.
He labored to separate mankind from God.
The devilish state reflects that influence.
It is contrary to truth.
It is contrary to obedience.
It is contrary to faith.
It is contrary to repentance.
It is contrary to charity.
The devilish state cannot redeem mankind.
It cannot overcome death.
It cannot break the bands of spiritual captivity.
It cannot grant salvation.
It cannot produce eternal life.
Those who continue in rebellion strengthen the hold of the devilish state.
Those who reject truth give place to it.
Those who love wickedness nourish it.
Those who harden their hearts increase its influence.
But the word of God opposes it.
Repentance opposes it.
Faith opposes it.
Obedience opposes it.
The Spirit of God opposes it.
The Redeemer opposes it.
The mercy of God provides a way of escape from it.
The gospel calls mankind away from it.
Repentance invites the sinner to abandon it.
Faith invites the soul to trust in God rather than in lies.
The commandments direct mankind away from it.
The Holy Spirit warns against it.
The righteous reject it.
The humble turn from it.
The faithful overcome it through the grace of God.
The power of Christ is greater than the power of deception.
The truth of God is greater than falsehood.
The mercy of God is greater than the chains of rebellion.
The word of God can awaken the heart.
The Spirit of God can soften the heart.
The repentant can turn from evil.
The lost can return.
The fallen can rise.
The captive can be delivered.
Therefore reject the devilish state.
Reject lies.
Reject rebellion.
Reject the desire to oppose God.
Receive truth.
Receive correction.
Receive faith.
Receive repentance.
Hearken unto the word of God.
Seek the companionship of the Holy Spirit.
Follow the Redeemer.
Turn from the influence of the adversary.
Walk in righteousness.
Pursue holiness.
Seek reconciliation with God.
Receive the mercy prepared from the foundation of the world.
Let truth replace deception.
Let obedience replace rebellion.
Let faith replace unbelief.
Let life replace spiritual death.
Come unto Christ and be delivered.
