Finding Meaning in Stillness: A Heartfelt Reflection

In our busy lives, finding moments of quiet can be challenging, but these moments are precious. They give us a chance to pause, reflect, and connect with what truly matters. My journey to understanding the power of stillness began when I was just a child.

At five and a half years old, I had an accident that severed my tongue. I remember my dog, Ernie, jumping under me, keeping me conscious. My aunt Hazel was there as the doctor sewed my tongue back on without anesthesia. It was a moment that taught me about courage and calmness in difficult times.

During my recovery, I learned to appreciate silence. I discovered that when we are quiet, we can see and hear things more clearly. I remember listening to "American Pie" by Don McLean while taking a bath. As I went under the water, the sound softened, but it was still there—just like the constant presence of love and guidance in our lives. This experience reminded me that, like the music beneath the water, our spirit exists within the reality of matter. We, too, need moments of stillness to connect with our deeper selves, to hear the voice of meaning and purpose in our lives from the one shared Creator.

Pause and reflect: which particle of energy and light within the very elements of the sub-atomic you is not sustained moment to moment by the Creator?

Which space is hidden in your life from the Creator, what construct of your being is unknown to its sustainer?

What thought is yours alone?

Who is sharing who on the journey to finding out whom you are, from the infinitely small gathered with purpose to the beautifully grown you?

In these quiet moments, we can ask ourselves, in this modern world: Who are we and what are we becoming and what could we become with some heart? Are we defined by what others see, or by the dreams and love in our hearts? We all have stories to tell, journeys to share, and lessons to learn.

My poetry is the best way for me to share that view and feelings on our purpose as a created and sustained being, but I think there is a deeper message directly to share that highlights a core truth: you are the space between breath and heartbeat, the heart of Creation is placed within you. Are you a drop of water like me, and together could we make a cloud of kindness to bring renewal? When I pause and slowly read the words of my poetry there are realities that become clear, it is about daring to be aware, awake, and observant of life:

I often sit and feel the sun, embrace the wind, and think about life. I see the sun shining and the grasshopper leaping, yes there are those who have more pronounced gifts who achieve large goals swiftly, but life teaches us, none are as bold as the caterpillar who creeps.

What takes great struggle produces great gain and worth.

And between the reeds, I see the butterfly with shimmering wings. Triumph comes to those who persist, as persistence is the only thing that removes failure from the path of success.

Often the greatest gaining doers are also the most scarred upon the heart by others.

Do we choose to see the wounds and gifts another carries as equal in worth and measure? How can the butterfly wings be properly understood without the clarity of the struggling caterpillar?

Each breath is a chance to think about who we are:

We aren't much different, you and I. Some walk the land, some soar the skies, some swim the seas. We share these moments together. Look within yourself and find the truth. We came from somewhere, and we'll return there, living with purpose and learning along the way.

The sea cares for each drop, reminding us to know who we are:

The sea worries for the precious drops carried afar. There is a purpose to knowing who you are. All return to the ocean from when they fell, each carrying a story, a sacred journey to tell.

So, amidst life's noise, ask yourself:

Who are you amidst the world's noise? Are you what another sees, another feels, or are you the dream within your heart whose light reveals warmth, love, and compassion.

Finding meaning in stillness is about embracing life and listening to our hearts. It’s about spending time with loved ones, being present, and cherishing the simple moments. As we find stillness, we discover the path that leads us to peace and love.

Choose to be in still water, to remove the noise others cause or you bring upon yourself, seek out the tune again, it has always been there, that subtle still small voice of the Creator.

Let us take time to be still, to listen, and to love. Together, we can share our stories and inspire each other to grow. Let us live with kindness and help one another, creating memories that last a lifetime.
